Happy 22nd Anniversary to AADMD! After a meeting of the Southern Association of Institutional Dentists in Chattanooga in 2002, several in attendance went to dinner. It was a bonding of dedicated physicians and dentists, all focused on on the fact that healthcare for children and adults with intellectual, developmental and physical disabilities was deplorable. Access to and the ability to receive quality healthcare was impossible and training in medical and dental schools was non-existent. The system needed to change. After dinner this group developed a plan that would form the American Academy of Developmental Medicine and Dentistry to try to change the broken system and improve the lives of patients. Thanks to all of our members, students, advocates, self advocates, and health care teams for making our dream a reality!
