2018 Annual Conference

The AADMD-NTG 2018 conference will be held in conjunction with the 2018 Special Olympics USA Games -- to be held in Seattle, Washington in July 2018.


2017 Annual Conference


The AADMD-NTG 2017 conference was held in Houston, Texas on the campus of the University of Texas - Houston on June 2-4, 2017.  The NTG embed day was Saturday, June 3, with a morning plenary and paper sessions throughout the afternoon.  Dr. Ann-Charlotte “Lotta”Granholm-Bentley was the keynote speaker and spoke on Down syndrome and Alzheimer’s disease: Common pathways and potential treatment avenues." Dr. Granholm-Bentley is the director of the founding executive director of the Knoebel Institute for Healthy Aging at the University of Denver, Colorado.

2016 Annual Conference

The AADMD/NTG Conference was held July 8-10, 2016, in Chicago, Illinois at the Swissotel Chicago.  Dementia related papers were presented on Friday, July 8th and  Saturday, July 9th.  Papers and posters covered topics related to cognitive decline, dementia and related matters (assessment, screening, training, interventions, dementia-capable programs and services, family supports, etc).  On Saturday morning, July 9th,  the NTG is sponsoring a plenary session on 'Health Promotion and Its Impact on Cognitive Functioning', involving a number of speakers, including Tamar Heller (University of Illinois at Chicago), Dawna Mughal Torres (Gannon University), Philip McCallion (University at Albany), and Erin Long (Administration on Community Living).

2015 Annual Conference

The NTG participated in the Global Summit on Innovations in Health and IDD, the annual conference of the American Academy on Developmental Medicine and Dentistry (AADMD) held in Los Angeles, California – July 27-29, 2015.  The NTG Track Day was July 28th and opened with the invitational symposium, ‘Innovations and Research Advances in Dementia and Down Syndrome’, jointly sponsored by the NTG and the Tosinvest Sanità Organization.  Speakers included Michael S. Rafii, MD, PhD, Wayne Silverman, PhD, Claudia Condoluci, MD, and Michael Harpold, PhD.  The NTG Track Day included sessions of papers and symposia on topics related to dementia, mild cognitive impairment, and cognitive decline –  focusing on screening, assessment, diagnosis; epidemiology and demographics, interventions and treatment, health issues; family supports; housing; end-of-life care; innovations in care of early and mid-stage and advanced dementia, as well as other related areas.  For a schedule of presentations, please click here.


2014 Annual Conference

The National Task Group held its first National Conference on Dementia and Intellectual Disabilities on June 17 and 18, 2014 in Princeton, New Jersey. The conference was a cooperative endeavor among the NTG, the RRTC on Developmental Disabilities and Health at the University of Illinois at Chicago, the American Academy of Developmental Medicine and Dentistry, Special Olympics, and a range of state and national organizations, university centers, and consumer advocacy groups.
