NTG News:

New Online Support Group for Family Caregivers

The National Task Group on Intellectual Disabilities and Dementia Practices is pleased to announce the availability of an online support group for family caregivers, The Group is open to family caregivers of someone with Down syndrome or any other intellectual disability who also has, or is, suspected of having Alzheimer’s or another type of dementia. The goal is to provide support to families so they can share their experiences and learn from each other. Read more here
 

2016 Annual Conference of the Association for Professional Developmental Disabilities Administrators
 
Dr. Lucy Esralew represented the NTG at the 2016 Annual Conference of the Association for Professional Developmental Disabilities Administrators (APDDA), held in Austin, Texas on April 19th, 2016.  She offered a keynote, titled "Current Perspectives on Dementia Capable Caregiving" as well as a workshop on the NTG-EDSD.  Among the 80 persons who attended the workshop -- an Austin-based group representing IDD service providers has agreed to use the NTG-EDSD to baseline functioning of their consumers as per the NTG recommendations.  FMI:  LEsralew@trinitas.org

 

2016 Gerontological Society of American Conference

Dr. Matthew Janicki, and Dr. Philip McCallion of the NTG, along with Ms. Erin Long of the US Administration on Community Living were the principals in a symposium on "Integrating Intellectual Disability and Dementia into the National Plan to Address Alzheimer’s Disease" at the 2016 GSA meeting in New Orleans, Louisiana.  The session was held on November 18, 2016.
