This unique conference on health and healthcare for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities will be held by the American Academy of Developmental Medicine and Dentistry (AADMD) at the Cooley Center, part of the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston.

Post-Conference Workshops

On June 5, and 6 The National Task Group on Intellectual Disabilities and Dementia Practices will offer a two-day workshop on ‘Dementia Capable Care of Adults with Intellectual Disabilities and Dementia’ appropriate for all levels of staff caring for adults at risk for or diagnosed with ID and dementia. There is the option of adding a 3rd day on June 7 for a Train the Trainer workshop. Content includes aging and ID, early detection and screening, Down syndrome and dementia, behavioral and psychiatric symptoms in ID and dementia, environmental adaptations to support function, programmatic challenges, end of life issues, and other topics. More information and a link to register for this workshop will be posted here when it becomes available.

On Monday June 5 The IASSIDD Academy will also provide a series of half-day workshops on a number of topics related to physical and mental health care issues and practices. The list of workshops and information about their content and the speakers can be found here.

Student Scholarship Opportunity

Want to qualify for a scholarship to present your work at the AADMD Annual Educational Conference in Houston? Submit your abstract by February 20, 2017 through button below to participate in the webinar-based Virtual Research Symposium (March 16, 2017, 8pm EDT) to qualify for an award! Project presentations will be 7-10 minutes long with a brief Q&A session. You must be a current student to qualify for a scholarship. For more information on the Institute, download the flyer here!
