Hello everyone,

The Program in Aging and Developmental Disabilities (PADD) is pleased to offer a webinar (online training) regarding health care advocacy for older adults with IDD.  The panel of speakers, Mary Hogan, Jo Anne Armstrong, and Shelley VanLare, RN, will be facilitated by Dr. Kathleen Bishop.  Registration flyer is attached.

Three Perspectives on Health Care Advocacy for Older Adults with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities
Date: Nov. 17, 2011, 1:00pm - 3:00pm (EST) Access to, and provision of, health care for adults with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (IDD) can be challenging.  Many health care practitioners have limited experience with adults with IDD thus, advocates and self?advocates must have skills and knowledge to (1) recognize and discuss symptoms, (2) observe and report changes in behavior, personality and/or function, and (3) communicate effectively with health care practitioners, including understanding any follow?up instructions. The three panelists on this webinar will focus on their personal experiences obtaining appropriate health care assessments and interventions for people with IDD across the lifespan.
