Congenital heart defects in children most likely remain congenital heart defects in adults. This area has been largely ignored by adult docs, especially in those conditions where you have congenital heart defects as part of the syndromes that include intellectual and developmental disabilities. The AADMD salutes the US Dept of Health and Human Services for this work in newborn screening.
