AADMD INFO BLAST - For AADMD Members and Friends
From AADMD's Colleague, Counselor and Friend David Ervin
Back in June, 2016, over deep dish pizza in downtown Chicago with Dr. Rick Rader, my colleague and friend, he asked me what got me into this work. Because the question came from Rick, I shared more than I ordinarily do...
An hour later, he encouraged me to write an article for Exceptional Parent Magazine—I will be forever grateful.
The article is published in the 6 February 2017 edition of EP.
Some of you have heard the story, others haven’t. It’s a terrific honor to share it with an even wider audience. It’s a story that has taken up permanent residence in my soul, and I’m privileged to share it with you here.
One more thing.
I’ve not published it nor share it with you for accolades or congratulations. Rather, I think it’s a story that belongs to all of us. We, together, have taken up the awesome responsibility of learning from our experiences and using what we’ve learned to make the world a better place. What’s more, we openly acknowledge what history has visited on people with disabilities, thus making sure that history does not repeat itself.
I’m proud to work with each and all of you, and I’m proud that we all seek to use this history—a history that is entwined with my own life’s journey—as motivation to make our community, our world a far better and welcoming world for all people, but especially for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
