To encourage growth and unity among as well as within the AADMD student/resident chapters, two AADMD students will be presenting on how they created specific dental and medical school events that focused on serving individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. These webinars will hopefully provide other schools with the necessary tools so that they can hold similar events. Sarah Usher, DMD Candidate at Arizona School of Dentistry & Oral Health, will be presenting on how to organize a "Day of Special Smiles" event. Sarah and many of her fellow dental students worked with multiple osteopathic medical students to provide dental work and health education to over 50 Special Olympics athletes. Michelle Cornacchia, fourth year medical student at Robert Wood Johnson Medical School, organized a "Disabilities Awareness Week" at her medical school that helped other medical students learn more about intellectual and developmental disabilities by getting involved in a Special Olympics event, inviting a motivational speaker to talk about his life living with cerebral palsy, and holding a showing of a TED Talk involving Temple Grandin. Both students have learned a great deal from their experiences, and now want to share with you how this is possible at your school! Please, join us!
