President's Message

The recent meeting of the AADMD and the DDNA at the MGM Grand in Foxwoods, Connecticut was everything one always expects whenever these two great organizations get together. I came away from this year’s gathering with a heightened respect for the organizational skills of the entire DDNA leadership, especially Executive Director Mary Alice Willis. I also returned home with the knowledge that the organization that I co-founded with Phil May and Steve Zelenski six short years ago has matured, and grown into a force to be reckoned with in the developmental disabilities advocacy arena; one which is prepared to continue to make significant contributions in areas of teaching, research, and advocacy. I look forward to my tenure as President of the AADMD; we have a great deal of good and important work to do. And, to those of us who left Foxwoods and traveled back to our homes with a real sense of accomplishment, I would simply say, it’s an honor to lead this group, and an honor to be a part of the very important coalition that we have forged with our colleagues in nursing.
